Well, I know I've seen this one before. Apparently I was anonymous when that occurred. I was probably just too jealous to ever leave a comment though. You see, this is the type of photo that most of us wish we could say we made.

^ oh, you're silly. thanks so much for coming back here and commenting, sir. reminds me again of this day--i had just gone horseback riding with a friend, and we had seen an ibis on the trail. the wind was blowing so hard, the granules of white sand looked like snow flurries across the beach. drifts formed around the posts! farther on, the oystercatchers sat on their nests. a priceless day!

Joster didn't show. The paper boat didn't show.

So i drank the baileys out of chocolate shot glasses in a toast to this picture.

^ oh, no! i did not mention that the paper boats made a stop so that maple.thorn could board? listen, when the boats get around to you, they're gonna be pretty soggy. you will need liquor to make the passage, for sure. but man, these sticks are worth it.

Let me be the first to congratulate you. I obviously preferred the pants version, but i understand this picture is easier to enjoy for the wide audience. Honey was not made for the donkey's mouth (spanish saying).

^ oh! your comment makes my day! well, just as you say, France cannot be reduced to Paris, and New York cannot be reduced to Manhattan. New York City is comprised of five boroughs, each with a different feel, and each with something different to offer. i live in the borough of Manhattan, and this beach is in a different borough; it takes me over an hour to get there by train and bus... but sometimes i need to escape these busy streets!

What's really doing it for me is the crisp stratified bands of sand around the pillars...

^ thank you for that--that comment means a lot to me. but joster, under my orders, is coming here by paper ship so that he can learn how to catch oysters, and i will tell him to swing around by you--wait on the beach and he will pick you up. bring your camera. i loved those bands of sand, too. it was so windy that day, the white sand was blowing over the beach and piling up against the old pillars--lines and lines of them, all along the beach, like regiments.

I will have to get back to you on that one. There's this small detail of governance that comes into question: Who will run the country when I'm away? For Riga I could just telegraph my orders - it's just one timezone away - but for NYC a better mean of communication would have to be invented. My scientists are working full-time on it.
