I find the decreasing use of hats quite sad, I know what you mean though, im fond of a good Harris tweed flat cap. But when i first wore it people would look at me strangely, which almost put me off wearing it. But you cant worry about what others think, so now, if I like it, I wear it!!! And you know what they say. "If you wanna get a head.........."
