actually, symmetry can be found many places in nature, but mostly in organisms that are too small to be seen with the naked eye. check out this site featuring ernst haeckel from the MBL in woods hole, mass. he documented the elaborate symmetry of many protozoans like radiolaria and mycetozoa. these organisms are stunning and his work contributed greatly to our understanding of the taxonomy and morphology of these tiny creatures...
