2006-11-09 // 11:10:52 9circles Many thanks for telling us your fathers story. Its true what they say about history being written by the victors, as any references to Italy in the war when I was being taught history only focused on the Mussolini colusion with the nazis. The more things change the more they stay the same.

yeah, history is a strange subject. in this period in italy there are a lot of discussions about the fact that the partisans made cruel things while setting italy free... is there something weird in it? a civil war is not a joke, in a war there are cruel things, but people wants to see things only black or white, with no shades.
there are some who think that partisans were saints and others that think they were devils... how stupid.
2006-11-09 // 03:13:04 futurowoman thank you so much for sharing this terrible tale.
2006-07-08 // 06:24:56 Urizen I can't add nothing to what the others already said: Thank you for sharing this story and this shot
^
it was made to be shared:)
2006-07-07 // 07:01:15 ulf What happened to your dad and even worse to those 50,000 that didn't survive this atrocity is so tragic. And yeah, finding half-baked justifications for denying someone their rights under the Geneva Convention does sound all too familiar these days, yuck. Aren't there any lobbying groups in Italy to get some form of reparation for the survivors from Germany and Austria? It's probably too late now...thank you for sharing.

there are a few associations that united for a trial in germany, when the state decided that prisoners of war deserved a sort of refound or something like that. the problem is that the judges behaved like hitler: "you weren't prisoners of war, we can't give you anything". it almost sounds like a joke.

2006-07-06 // 13:42:48 Shlomo.Ben.Jussuf thank you so much for sharing this story ,,, it really makes me sad ... my family is from former yugoslavia and most of my family suffered (again) a lot during the last war in the 80s/90s ... they have been improsened, beaten, displaced, etc.
so sad!

i hope that everyone from your family is ok now!
2006-07-06 // 13:01:05 artpunk Apart from being in photographic and art terms a fascinating and compelling image, this is a very powerful and personal sharing of your family history with the accompanying words Silvia. I admire and respect you for this. There are many stories like these that have been forgotten, it is good that we have people such as yourself to remind us, so we may try and stay vigilant and help prevent these kind of histories from repeating.
Thank you.

"we may try and stay vigilant and help prevent these kind of histories from repeating."
i don't want other 5 years old kids to listen to such horrible stories told by fathers who have been part of them. i don't want other sons and daughters to cry thinking about the pains that their fathers have suffered.
