This here is the St Johns Bridge. It crosses the Willamette river in Portland, Oregon. It is a steel suspension bridge that was built between the years of 1928 to 1931. This bridge has two 408 ft (124m) tall Gothic Towers, a 1,207 ft (368m) center span and a total length of 2,067 ft (630m). It is the tallest bridge in Portland, with 400ft (122 m) tall towers and a 205 ft (62 m) clearance for boats. The average traffic that crossed this bridge in 2001 was 23,800 vehicles per day. The construction of the bridge began a month before the the stock market crash of 1929 and provided many jobs for the residents of the county during the great depression. Interesting fact that this bridge was going to be painted yellow with black stripes because of its close proximity to Swan Island Airport. The county waited until St. Patricks Day 1931 to announce it had decided to paint the bridge green. The bridge was finally dedicated on June 13, 1931. At the time of the bridge's completion it had the highest clearance in the nation, had the longest prefabricated steel cable rope strands, tallest steel frame piers of reinforced concrete, first application of aviation clearance lights to the towers, and the longest suspension span west of Detroit.
