a polaroid our son rainer snapped of me
a few days before ro and i married
there was no wedding
just us three at the courthouse
there were no flowers
no reception
but there was a dress
a gold dress
that my mother bought for me
sometimes i regret the no wedding
because what a wonderful way
of getting your favorite folks
all in the same place
and sharing in all that joy
but ultimately i know
this was the only way for me
simple
but still beautiful
*i never imagined myself to ever marry or have children
it is interesting to find out
my mother never thought i would either
