Kate Moss
Chad Coombs has brought back the flavors of Andy Warhol in his Polaroid series
Pop Kate.
In the same fashion Warhol obtained many of his famous images, Coombs has taken the
Kate Moss Playboy portraits and given them a four flavor remix.
After cutting out the body and clothing from their original scenes, Coombs then placed them
isolated against a black back ground, much like the facial portraits he is so widely known for.
How ever in this series, Coombs adds layers of color instead of facial features.
The physical renditions are then photographed onto PX70 Polaroid film, where Coombs then
apply’s his signature style of outlining and ornamenting Mrs. Moss.
Coombs reaches a harmonious balance between originality and plagiarism with this series.
“I think that you buy a magazine, you pay for it, it's yours. I don't get mad when people take my things.”
