12:12 Men's Project; Escher-esque Theme
The first theme of the 12:12 Men’s Project, ‘Escher-esque’ comes from me. I have been a long time fan of M.C. Escher, and thought it would be challenging to try to come up with something that would be reminiscent of some of his work.
The second challenge for me in this group, is to try to think like a man. For this theme, I thought of all of my male photographers friends and my past conversations with them. The one thing that most of them have in common, is the whole techy, gear-head aspect. So, I decided on a simple photo idea, and then shot it with a 35mm film camera, and a digital camera. I then scanned the negatives, and uploaded the images. Unfortunately the film versions weren’t as detailed as the digital, simply because of the lens difference. I chose a digital image, and then made it 35mm wide, printed it onto transparency film, cut it out, put it into my day lab with a pack of extremely expired Polaroid 664 and exposed it. After it came out, I put the sealer on it, which added all of the texture that you see here, and then to make it look more like a drawing, I sketched on it with a pencil. I then scanned it, and did nothing to it in PS.
