Still Alive
#0464

The history of the compact cassette is similar to that of Polaroid in many ways. Both media had their heyday in the 1970s and 1980s and both were unable to compete with their digital competitors in the 2000s. The decline, at least in Europe and North America, was inevitable.

Now in the 2020s, both media are experiencing a revival: Polaroid (new company / old name) has developed new cameras and new image material. On the other hand, pop music stars are releasing their records also on compact cassette (e.g. Lana Del Rey or Billie Eilish).

That's reason enough for me to photograph some of my compact cassettes with my new Polaroid I-2. The oldest cassette is from 1972, the newest from 2024.
I have picked out five cassettes and described each in a little more detail. (See #0459 to #0463)
