Because...oh geez...because our cultures have long ago begun to pass on as well as proliferate traditions through the symbolic representation of language which in turn leaves virtually infinite room for interpretation, especially when said traditions concern the metaphysical and manage to survive many generations.

This room for interpretation is most effectively used by institutions seeking the retention of power or an increase thereof through the cunning use of demagoguery that asserts authority originating in the metaphysical which in turn drives us to acts of violence, cruelty, murder, or even genocide.
