Even as a day visitor, you find yourself unable to breathe normally until the moment you have left the grounds. This was taken through the barbed wire gates separating the crematorium and gas chamber from the rest of the grounds. The prisoners never usually got into this area, unless they were being made to load bodies into the incinerators. But when the wind blew the wrong way, the smell of burnt human flesh would drift across to the barracks.
