This is the regular connection, and due to the tides, only once a day. The area is changing massivly due to dumping silt from the river Elbe in the sea. The way becomes more complicated every year. The other island, Scharhörn, is reachable only by tractor for some years already. This year, even that one got stuck.

To be honest, the difficulty of the route is maybe the smallest problem the silt-dumping provokes, because there is also a ferry. But it's visually the most attractive to tell about (and on a B-Side, I wouldn't like seeing the woman steering the watt wagon on one of the last horse-powered transport link loosing her job).

Sorry for this hell of a scan, but some stories need to be told.
